Long Islanders Voted American Heart Association in Plainview Best Local Charity on Long Island!
For the benevolent, there are causes looking for a helping hand from one end to the other across Long Island. From food banks and homeless shelters to child advocacy groups and organizations that fundraise for research to cure diseases, it is nearly impossible to try to pick the Best Local Charity out of all these altruistic people. Those who rose to the top of this list did so because their unconditional selflessness set them apart. We bring you this year’s winners for Best Local Charity on Long Island.
1. American Heart Association
125 E. Bethpage Rd., Plainview. 516-501-6700. www.americanheart.org
The American Heart Association in Plainview was voted Best Local Charity because, well, they have a lot of heart. The LI chapter of the AHA is overseen by Kathy Munsch, a leader who has a strong sense of what her organization can do for the community. She started the Go Red for Women luncheon 10 years ago and Kathy and her committee have grown the event to now include almost 1,000 attendees. Kathy even nabbed Dr. Mehmet Oz to be the luncheon keynote speaker not once, but twice. Heart disease is the number-one killer of women in the United States and it’s a preventable disease. Kathy asks all of us to “Know Your Numbers!” They can save your life.
